Alanya Atatürk House Museum
 is in the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (Father of the Turks), the first President of the Turkish Republic stayed in 1935. 

 

History

  • Alanya  was known as Alaiye until after Atatürk’s visit on 18 February 1935. 
  • It is said that Atatürk received a mis-spelled telegram message from Alaiye whilst on  holiday in 1933, and subsequently decided that Alanya was a better name. 
  • The 3 storey Ottoman house was left, as a museum, to the Ministry of Culture, by the owner, Rifat Azakoğlu.
  • The museum opened to the public in 1986.

  

Key Facts

  • Located in Central Alanya, near to the bazaar.
  • 1st floor exhibits: photographs; historical documents; a telegram sent by Atatürk to the people of Alanya; some of the President’s personal belongings.
  • Top floor exhibits: period furniture, showing how a wealthy Alanya family lived in the 1930s.
  • Admission: free of charge.
